Your college experience
Chances are, when you look back to your college experience,
you either smile or cringe. Some people seem to make a career
out of their college years by changing majors constantly and
not having a clue where they want to head in life. Hopefully,
your college experience was that of learning - both about life
and your chosen field. That's what your college experience
should be about - gaining independence and learning and
figuring out your life's path. However, there are quite a few
people who spend their entire life not knowing what their path
truly is.
Traditionally, your college experience is four years long
and you live on campus. Some people are involved in sports,
others in drama, while some choose to join a fraternity or
sororiety. The more studious students tend to remain driven and
may choose to be removed from any activities. There are usually
more parties than can be counted on the weekends and students
experiment with tons of different things. Obviously, the goal
of college is not to see who can drink the most beer or how
many parties you can put on your social calendar, but your
college experience will most likely deal with those topics.
With the tuitions costs constantly rising, most parents are
hoping that your college experience turns out to be a positive
one.
Perhaps your college experience was not traditional.
Non-traditional students and more unique scenarios are not
uncommon anymore. Your college experience may have been of a
community college to get a technical degree or diploma. Or,
your college experience may not have happened until your later
years. Many adults are finding themselves going back to
college, for various reasons, but attending programs that are
geared towards the non-traditional students. Employers are
helping to pay for employees to finish degrees or earn degrees.
More and more careers are making a college degree a requirement
now. There are so many factors that may have made your college
experience quite different than others, but hopefully the
outcome was the same. The goal of college is to better yourself
not only educationally and secure a more positive future, but
to learn more about the world and yourself. If your college
experience was not traditional, hopefully you still managed to
learn new things about yourself and the world.
Hopefully your college experience didn't put you into too much
debt either.
You may been like the average college student and the end of
your college experience left you with student loans that may
weigh you down for many years. Since costs have gone up every
year, it is almost impossible to not end your college
experience with some sort of debt having been accrued. Make
sure that you made wise financial decisions. And make sure that
whatever your college experience was like, it is looked back on
with fondness.
